Czech giants Slavia Prague assistant coach Abdulhakeem al-Tuwaijri has reportedly handed in his CV to take over as the next head coach of the Zimbabwe National Men’s football Team, it is being reported.
At the time of writing he was the only foreigner to put his name in the hat after the Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) put out an advert for the job.
The other two believed to be interested are Dynamos gaffer Hebert Maruwa and former national team boss Kalisto Pasuwa. Pasuwa is currently enjoying a successful stint in Malawi, where he has won the last four titles with Nyasa Big Bullets.
Back to al-Tuwaijiri.
He holds a Uefa Pro License which he got in 2022.
Slavia Prague promoted him to the first team this year, with Director of Sport Jiří Bílek saying, “During his stay with the reserves, he showed that he has a lot to offer to the club.”
He reportedly has interests in building his team around Nyasha Munetsi, Tino Kadewere, Marvelous Nakamba,Teenage Hadebe and Tendai Darikwa.
Darikwa is an interesting one as he has excused himself from recent call-ups.
And that Udinese’s Jordan Zemura is not on the list should be curious.
And there is talk of bringing back former captain Knowledge Musona and the club-less (contract rebel) Khama Billiat.
Zimbabwe have to find a coach before the CHAN24 qualifiers start next month.
The Warriors were allowed back into international competition after a Fifa ban was recently lifted.
