India is set to become the most populous country by middle of this year, the United Nations has revealed.
That means they replace China for this position.
India’s population by mid-year will reach 1.4286 billion, compared to China’s 1.4257 billion according to the United Nations Population Fund’s (UNFPA) “State of World Population Report” for 2023.
The exact date is not clear because of the lack of data from India and China.
The world population passed the 8 billion mark in November of last year.
Most of the growth to 2050 is set to be concentrated in eight specific countries. These are Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines and Tanzania.
