Sikandar Raza scored his maiden half-century in Punjab Kings’s two-wicket victory over Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
He scored 57 off 41 after Kings had struggled up top in the absence of captain Shikar Dhawan, chasing 160.
That meant Raza was promoted up the order and came in at four.
His first 13 balls gave him 11 runs. The next 13, 26.
And then he made history, becoming the first Zimbabwean to score a half-century in the IPL.
With wickets falling on the other end and Ravi Bishnoi bowling well, he attempted to sweep one over deep backward square, only to perish with Marcus Stoinis collecting off the spinner.
Shahrukh Khan however had enough in his armour to win it for his team.
Earlier Raza took one for 19 as well as completing a catch.
Raza would be named player of the match. And with that, the first Zimbabwean to do so.
The win takes the Punjab Kings to number four in the log. That is the last slot for those who want to qualify for the playoffs, although there is still a lot of cricket to be played.
