Fugitive rapist and murderer Thabo Bester has been re-arrested along with two accomplices, South Africa’s Minister of Justice, Ronald Lamola has confirmed.
They were captured in Tanzania in Tanzania on Friday night, he said.
The other two accomplices are socialite Dr Nandipha Magudumana and a Mozambican national.
The Department of Justice is working with Tanzania authorities to bring the fugitives back into the country.
Bester escaped from the Mangaung Correctional Centre in Bloemfontein in May 2022. He had initially been thought to have committed suicide.
The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) which had declared him dead, reversed their decision after the charred remains turned out not to be his.
Bester and Magudumana have been on the run since the news of his prison escape was revealed by Ground Up.
He was serving a life sentence.
