Age-gap relationships are as common as time.

In effect, historically, in African customs, men married at 40 and often their brides were half their age.

But that was a different time, even though the relationships persists, where men who are much older have have mistresses, small-houses or side-pieces who are significantly. Or given that some people are getting married a lot later, men in their 40s are seeking monogamous relationships with much younger women. Or a divorced dude as well.

There is a lot we just unpacked there.

Well, here are four potential problems caused by age-gap relationships.

1. The older person inadvertently causes the younger person to be fake

So the younger partner may feel they have to feign a lot of things, so as to remodel themselves into being more acceptable for the older one. It is subconscious, and it comes even in seemingly innocuous phrases, which cause the person to do more to be acceptable.

2. Emotional maturity

Because the younger person has not gone through the different experiences which mould emotions into maturity. To be clear, one can be young and exhibit maturity beyond their age. But in reality, the gap can cause some dysfunction. This may cause people to call each other immature or the other way, teh younger labeling the older old-fashioned.

3. Common interests may be lacking

Because of the natural age gap, some interests may differ. The attraction may be strong but if one wants to party all nigtht and the other wants to tuck in and watch a documentary on the most dangerous snakes in the world, conflict may be brewing.

4. The younger person may have more stamina and energy

This is not just for partying and other activities. This can be in bed as well. And when some satisfaction cannot be found.

What other possible problems can come up from age-gap relatonhips. Share your thoughts in the comments below.
