Bola Tinubu has won the Nigeria presidential election.

Official results show the 70-year-old veteran politician winning 37% of the vote. His closest rival Atiku Abubakar polled 29%, and Labour’s Peter Obi 25%.

Both have called the election sham and have called for rerun.

Tinubu ran off the successes as Governor of Lagos State. He did not win that state though. Obi took it.

Tinubu is from the  All Progressives Congress (APC) party of the outgoing President Muhammadu Buhari, who is stepping down after two terms in office.

The winner campaigned under the slogan “It’s my turn”.

He has a tough job. Economica stagnation, Islamic insurgency in the North-West, kidnappings for ransom and separatist attacks in the south-east.

Buhari called Tinubu the best person for the job, while urging aggrieved opposition candidates to take matters to the court, and not the streets.
