Stuck in our head is his voice on Fifa 98.

John Motson, one of the greatest football commentators to ever call the game, has died.

An illustrious career with the BBC saw Motty, as he was affectionately called, cover 10 World Cups, 10 European Championships and 29 FA Cup finals.

He also covered more than 200 England matches and commentated on almost 2,500 televised games, according to the BBC.

He retired in 2018.

A statement from the family say he ‘died peacefully in his sleep [on Thursday]’.

He is survived by his wife Anne and son Frederick.
