CYCLONE FREDDY: What you need to now as Met Department warns of heavy rains in parts of Zimbabwe

The Meteorological Services Department of Zimbabwe as warned of heavy rainfall as a result of Tropical Cyclone Freddy.

This is per advisory released on Wednesday at midday.

Where?

South of Manicaland, Masvingo and Matabeleland South. South West rain probability over 65mm in 24 hours at 60%, while the rest of the country sits at 30%.

When?

Thursday evening 23 February to Sunday 26 February 2023

What to watch out for

Very localised rans and flash flooding in areas with saturated soils, wetlands, impervious grounds and along river basins. Also expect blown off rooftops, fallen treas. Watch out for for open drains and potholes which will be covered with water.

What else to know

Tropical Cyclone Freddy hit the waters of the Mzzambique channel on Wednesday at 17.99hrs. Within 36 hours it will land West-South-West, reaching a final peak intensity of 110km/h/
