Ramaphosa deploys army at some Eskom power stations

Cyril Ramaphosa

In a dramatic move, South Africa president Cyril Ramaphosa has deployed the army to four Eskom power stations.

Eskom confirmed the deployment of the South African National Defence Forces (SANDF)

“Eskom can confirm that the SANDF is being deployed at Eskom. Eskom has received deployments at four sites this afternoon, Majuba, Camden, Grootvlei and Tutuka power stations,” said the power utility.

What the nature of the deployment remains unclear for now but Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana and Ramaphosa have complained about the sabotage of power stations, resulting in poor service provision.

Multiple and significant arrests have been made before this deployment.
