Reiss Nelson scores brace on return as Arsenal return to top

Zimbabwean-British winger Reiss Nelson scored a brace on his Premier League return as he helped his side to a 5-0 win over Nottingham Forest at the Emirates on Sunday.

He came on in the 32nd minute for England star Bukayo Saka who had to come off after he was injured.

His first goal came in the 49th minute when he took on a rebound of his own shot saved by Jordan Henderson and hammered it home. That was his first goal since 2020 for the Gunners, his second in the League overall.

Eight minutes later, Nelson scored after latching onto a pass on the near post from Gabriel Jesus, to convert with his right foot.

Other goals came from Gabriel Martinelli who scored the opener, Thomas Partey and captain Martin Odergaard.

The win means the Gunners go back to the summit after Manchester City had gone top on Saturday.

Nelson’s father is Zimbabwean and his mother English, which means he qualifies to play for both nations. He has had overtures made at him but it appears some shambolic handling of the whole affair has put him off.
