Pro50 Championship: Getkate century maintains Tuskers unbeaten start

Tuskers won by four runs

Irish import Shane Getkate smashed 120 as he helped Tuskers maintain their unbeaen start to the Pro50 Championship, as they edged Southern Rocks by four runs at Bulawayo Athletic Club on Sunday

His runs came in a 152-run partnership for the fourth wicket with Brian Chari, in setting a total of 278 for the loss of nine wickets in their 50 overs. Chari scored 67.

Tailender Tanatswa Bechani’s 38 and opener Tanunurwa Makoni with 14 were the only other players to get to double figures.

Sydney Murombo took two for 38, Cuthbert Musoko two for 37, Tendai Chisoro two for 37 and Dylan Hondo two for 53.

Rocks gave it a go, their opening partnership between Cephas Zhuwao and Brian Mudzingama put on 87. They scored 35 and 62 respectively.

Zhuwao was the first to go, falling to Nkosana Mpofu. Ben Curran was run out for one after facing just two balls.

Captain Richmond Mutumbami was next out, gone for 22, Mpofu’s third victim. Mudzinganyama became his fourth, when he departed for 62.

Batters then got starts, but could not kick on.

Rocks almost pulled of the impossible, their last wicket wicket putting 36. Charlton Tshuma broke their hearts when he took the wicket of Sydney Murombo for 17. Cuthbert Musoko was left stranded on 16.

Mpofu did het his fifth wicket when he removed Dylan Hondo for three. He finished with figures of five for 47 as they limited Rocks to 274 in 48.4 overs.


Mavuta claims six as Rhinos beat champions

Mountaineers 197 in 45 overs (Kevin Kasuza 70, Shingi Masakadza 26, Victor Nyauchi 26; Brandon Mavuta 6-23, Michael Chiinouya 3-41)

Rhinos 198/6 in 45.5 overs (Charles Kunje 62, Johnathan Campbell 54*; Vincet Maseksea 4-31)

Rhinos won by four wickets

Brandon Mavuta too six for 34 as he helped Rhinos to a four wicket win over champions Mountaineers at Kwekwe Sports Club.

The leg-spinner tore through the middle order as Mountaineers could only amass 197 in 45 overs.

Only Kevin Kasuza with 70, Shingi Masakadza and Victor Nyauchi as well an unbeaten 23 from Vincent Masekesa provided any real resistance.

Michael Chinouya contributed with three for 41.

Masekesa’s four for 31 made the chase interesting but there just weren’t enough runs to play with.

Takudzwanashe Kaitano contributed with 38 at the top and Charles Kunje, 62, in the middle.

Johnathan Campbell carried the match home with an unbeaten 54.
