Cops arrest man for gun possession after he threatened to shoot his wife

A Harare man has been arrested for the illegal possession of a firearm after he threatened to shoot his wife.

Floyd Chinamhora (48) at a house in Glenview 1, in connection with possession of an unlicensed shot gun double barrel which was found hidden under the bed, the Zimbabwe Republic Police confirmed.

The suspect was also found in possession of an air pallet gun which was stashed in a bag on top of a wardrobe. The suspect had threatened to shoot his wife during a domestic dispute.

The arrest was made on Saturday.

This comes a day after the amnesty for those with guns were urged to hand them in.

Police announced that 545 firearms and 260 rounds of ammunition had been handed in by Thursday, a day before the amnesty expired.

Cops now say they will conduct targeted raids to conduct searches of homes and businesses where there may be illegal guns firearms.
