Ryan Burl delivered a mesmerising spell of bowling as Zimbabwe beat Australia by three wickets in the third One Day International on Saturday.

Burl took five wickets for just 10 runs as Zimbabwe recorded their first ever ODI victory in Australia.

Burl’s haul was impressive as he did in just 18 balls, just two short of the 16 by Chaminda Vaas in 2003. That is for the quickest to five wickets.

Zimbabwe finally won the toss and decided to bowl first.

They quickly tour in the Australian top-order, with Richard Ngarava removing captain Aaron Finch for the third match in a row.

At 72 for five Australia looked to be in real trouble but David Warner, who seemed to be playing on a pitch different from everyone else’s kept the score ticking. The sixth wicket partnership between him and Glenn Maxwell got 57 runs and threatened a big score for the hosts.

Enter Burl who took Australia from 129 for the loss of five wickets to 141 all out.

141 is the lowest ever score by Australia against Zimbabwe in an ODI.

There were only two Australians to make double figures. Warner scored 94 and Maxwell 19

Brad Evans’s two for 35 was instrumental, while Victor Nyauchi, who took the wicket of the in-form Steve Smith had 31 dot balls in his six overs.

Zimbabwe started fairly well and were 44 for the loss one wicket at the end of the powerplay.

Josh Hazlewood then had Zimbabwe rattled when he took Wessly Madhevere and Sean Williams in two successive balls. The Chevrons were suddenly 44 for the loss of three wickets.

When Tadiwanashe Marumani departed for 35, there seemed trouble at 77 for theloss of five wickets.

Captain Regis Chakabva held the innings together and helped steer his side to a win with a unbeaten 37.

Hazlewood took three for 30.

What made this win even more impressive is that it was against a full strength Australia, while Zimbabwe were without a significant amount of their first-teamers.

Australia take the series but Zimbabwe will take a lot out of this win.
