‘Goodfellas’, ‘Law & Order’ star Paul Sorvino dies

Paul Sorvino, famous for memorable performance as as Paulie Cicero in the 1990 gangster film Goodfellas, and NYPD Sergeant Phil Cerreta on the TV series Law & Order has died.

The news was revealed by his agent Roger Neal.

His wife Dee Dee announced that Sorvino died of natural causes.

“Our hearts are broken, there will never be another Paul Sorvino, he was the love of my life and one of the greatest performers to ever grace the screen and stage,” she said

He was 83.

A Brooklyn native, Sorvino began in copywriting for an advertising agency before breaking into acting having dabbled in music. He started off in theatre where he gained critical acclaim before moving to the screen.

Other notable roles he played were Henry Kissenger in Oliver Stone’s Nixon and most recently, Paul Costello in The Godfather of Harlem.

Sorivino was the father of Oscar-winning actress Mira Sorvino (Mighty Aphrodite).

Wrote Mira on Twitter: “My heart is rent asunder — a life of love and joy and wisdom with him is over. He was the most wonderful father. I love him so much. I’m sending you love in the stars Dad as you ascend.”
