Sables make light work of higher-ranked Netherlands

It had been 33 years since Zimbabwe played a rugby test in Europe.

Netherlands were their opponents on Saturday. Gong into the match, the Dutch were ranked 26th while the Southern African nation was 34.

Hilton Mudariki and his men had not read the memo.

They came away 30-07 winners at the Rugby Stadium Amsterdam.

Zimbabwe’s tries came from centres Takudzwa Chieza and Matthew McNab, fullback Takudzwa Musingwini and replacement forward Liam Larkan.

Musingwini also chipped in with two penalties and a conversion, while Mudariki added another conversion.

It could have been a wider margin. Zimbabwe missed four penalties and two conversions, a total of 16 points.

Next, Zimbabwe play the Ivory Coast in a Rugby Africa Cup quarter final match.
