South Africa detects first case of monkeypox

South Africa has said it has detected its first case of monkeypox.

Health Minister Dr Joe Phaahla announced the first case of monkey pox detected in South Africa.

The case was detected in Johannesburg.

Phaahla says that the person has no travel history.

Phaahla says that the National Institution of Communicable Diseases (NICD) is conducting online in service training for health workers to be able to detect the disease so that the necessary laboratory tests can be done.
