Late blows in the chase and a brilliant bowling effort by Brad Evans helped Zimbabwe A to a three wicket win over Nepal in the first one day match on Friday.
With the visitors nervously inching towards their target, Evans cracked two sixes and a four off the bowling of Sushan Bhari to get his team over the line. His exploits left opener Innocent Kaia just two short of his half-century as he ended 48 not out.
They reached 137 for the loss of seven wickets in 26 overs.
And yet Zimbabwe A had been cruising along before losing five wickets for 38 runs. They were reduced from 80 for the loss of three wickets to 118 for seven as Innocent Kaia watched batters fall at very regular intervals on the other end. Other than Evans’s 17, only Cephas Zhuwao with 32 and Roy Kaia with 14 got to double figures.
In the end, it was the lusty blows off Evans’s willow which got the win for Zimbabwe.
Karan KC took two for 30 and Sandeep Lamichhane two for 32.
Earlier, Evans took four for 27 as Nepal were knocked over 136 in 31.3 overs. He was ably assisted by Zhuwao who was two for nine Brandon Mavuta who was two 24 and Victor Nyauchi’s two for 27.
Sompal Kami top-scored for with 30, followed by Karan KC with 25. Kushel Burtel made 19 and Dipendra Singh Aree 18.
