Former Kenyan president Mwai Kibaki dies

Mwai Kibaki, who served as Kenya’s third president has died.

The news announced by the current president Uhuru Kenyatta who said, “As we mourn the passing of an icon, Mwai Kibaki, we can rejoice in the lifelong companionship that he enjoyed with his now-departed wife, H.E Mama Lucy Kibaki.”

Kenyatta further praised Kibaki saying, “Mwai Kibaki will forever be remembered as a gentleman in Kenyan politics, a brilliant debater.”

Kibaki served as Head of State and Government from 2003 to 2013. He also served as the fourth Vice-President of Kenya for ten years from 1978 to 1988 under President Daniel arap Moi. 

He was 90.
