ZBC to launch new TV channel at ZITF

The public broadcaster ZBC has announced that it will be launching a new TV channel at this year’s Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (Zitf).

Acting Director Television and Digital Platforms, Ms Merit Munzwembiri, was quoted by the corporation’s website as saying, “As an exciting milestone for ZBC, I must announce to you that we will launch our first ever musical channel, which is JIVE TV. It’s currently on pilot; others have seen it, but we are launching it at ZITF 2022, this April.”

This is part six extra channels allocated to ZBC two years ago.

She added that the second channel to be launched is ZBC News 24, a 24-hour news channel, which is coming on board in August.

And outside the six there is also an additional Dream Africa Channel, which is part of a commercial cooperation agreement that also comes with technology and skills transfer.

ZBC has had to up its game after the introduction of new private players into the TV game it hogged for 62 years. Recently launched was 3Ktv which went live on DStv channel 293 and DTT.

Other players are set to launch their services soon. ZTN has been online but it is a matter of time before they are accessible elsewhere.
