Men’s Domestic T20: Mountaineers hammer hapless Eagles

Peter Moor top-scored of Mountaineers with 30

Mountaineers carried from the Pro50 Championship title win with an impressive six-wicket victory over Alliance Health Eagles in a Domestic T20 match at Harare Sports Club on Thursday.

Eagles won the toss and chose to bat first.

But for captain Chamu Chibhabha’s 35 and Aishah Chibanda’s 34, the Eagles scorecard was a sorry sight. The next highest score was Tapiwa Mufudza with nine, followed by Tinashe Kamunhukamwe with three.

Eagles were bowled out for 93 in 14.4 overs.

John Masara took three for 22, Shingi Masakadza two for 16, Wellington Masakadza two for 22 and Victor Nyauchi two for 23.

In response, Mountaineers had an early scare when Kevin Kasuza was removed by Richard Ngarava for nine caught by keeper Matthew Welch.

Peter Moor looked good till he had to go for 30, Welch collecting of Ngarava again. Not long after Tmycen Maruma followed for 14 and Wellington Msakadza for eight but there just were never enough runs on the board to defend.

Mountaineers reached 94 for the loss of wickets in 15 overs.

Ngarava was two for 22, Mufudza one for 16 and Wessly Madhevere one for 26.

Action continues on Friday with Eagles taking on Tuskers at Old Hararians Sports Club, while Rocks open their season against Rhinos at Harare Sports Club. Mountaineers have a bye.

Both matches start at 13.30hrs and admission is free.
