Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano cracked a half century on her return to competitive cricket as she led her Mountaineers Women side to crushing nine wicket victory over Eagles Women on the first day of the Women’s T20 Cup at Old Hararians Sports Club on Thursday.

Mountaineers won the toss and chose to field.

Rhinos started well but then Ashley Ndiraya fell on 18, bowled by Francesca Chipare.

Kelly Ndiraya then watced wickets fell around her and were it not for the 20 extras conceded, the score would have been more dire. She was on 22 unbeaten at the end as the Kwekwe-based side amassed 79 for the loss of eight wickets.

Nyasha Gwanzura was the pick of the bowlers as she took two for 15 from her two overs. Audrey Mazvishaya was one for 10, Patricia Murembo one for 11, Loryn Phiri one for 14, Kudzai Chigora one for six and Chipare one for 18.

Mugeri-Tiripano in her first match since she picked up an injury during the T20 Qualifier in Botswana last year, made 55 off 52 balls as the Eastern Highlands outfit chased down their target in 13.4 overs. In the end they made 80 for the loss of one wicket.

The only wicket to fall was Loryn Phiri, caught and bowled by Ashley Ndiraya, who retuned figures of one for nine.
