Russia Today channel disappears from DStv

The Russia Today (RT) channel has suddenly become unavailable on continental pay-tv broadcaster, DStv.

The error you you got to channel 407 is “This channel is closed. Please check the 8-day TV Guide to find out when it will be opn”

On the DStv streaming app, the error reads, “Please note that this channel is not currently airing on DStv. We apologize that the broadcast feed was abruptly stopped.”

MultiChoice itself then confirmed the development, “MultiChoice confirms that as of today, March 2 2022, RT (Channel 407) shall not be carried on the DStv platform until further notice.

“Sanctions imposed on Russia by the European Union has led to the global distributor of the channel ceasing to provide the broadcast feed to all suppliers, including MultiChoice,” a spokesperson for MultiChoice said.

MultiChoice had preciously said that it would not remove RT from its channels.

Sanctions have been imposed Russia across the board by the US and EU over its invasion of Ukraine. Russian media houses RT and Spuutnik have been blocked from broadcasting in the EU. This has led to fears that only one side of the conflict will be told, resulting in a Western-led propaganda burst.

South Africa has no sanctions against Russia.
