Zimbabwe’s preparations are in full swing as they gear up for their Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) finals due next month.
Here is what you need to know.
Khama Billiat
Khama Billiat will not be taking part in Zimbabwe’s Afcon adventure after his retirement. After an earlier indication that the Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) would try and persuade him to change his mind, they have now decided to ‘respect his decision’, according to Warriors manager Wellington Mpandare
Teenage Hadebe
US-based centre-back Teenage Hadebe is in the country but has not entered camp as he is handling a ‘delicate’ family situation, according to Mpandare.
Delayed players
UK-based players such as Jordan Zemura, David Moyo and Admiral Muskwe will now only enter camp after 3 January 2022 after a directive from Fifa, which allows them to play for their clubs until then. That is less than a week before the competition. Captain Knowledge Musona will be a little earlier as his final match will be on 31 December 2021. The players will fly straight to Cameroon. Of course, if Zimbabwe is suspended by Fifa, it could all be moot.
Friendlies
There are friendlies that are set for 2 and 4 January 2022.
Zimbabwe are in he same group with Senegal, Malawi and Guinea.
