Mid West Rhinos 177 in 41.1/50 overs (Prince Masvaure 33, Brandon Mavuta 31; John Masara 4-41, Shingi Masakadza 1-0)

Mountaineers won by 186 runs

Ben Compton scored his maiden century in List A cricket, as he led his Mountaineers side to a 186-run victory over Rhinos in a Pro50 match at Mutare Sports Club on Wednesday.

His 102 was part of a 363 for nine score set by Mountaineers as they were put in to bat.

They had a good start, but Kevin Kasuza was out for 37, out to David Murwendo with the team’s score on 57.

A massive 115-run partnership followed when Compton was Joined by Peter Moor. Tashinga Musekiwa removed the latter for 69 off 58 balls.

Timycen Maruma bullied the Rhinos bowling, his 65 coming off just 35 balls. His partnership with Compton was worth 100 before he had to leave, a victim of Brandon Mavuta.

Wickets fell quickly after but Compton remained long enough to get to his ton and when he left, he had faced 122 balls.

At that point the score was on 319 for the loss of six wickets.

Wellington Masakadza unbeaten on 16 and John Musara 14 unbeaten helped the score to its mammoth point.

Musekiwa was impressive for his five for 68.

The Rhinos reply never really got going. Takudzwanashe Kaitano was out for 13, trapped leg before by Victor Nyauchi. Bright Matsiwe was next out to Tendai Chatara for nine. Donald Tiripano got in on the action, removing Charles Kunje for eight. Ryan Burl followed the procession without bothering the scorers, Tony Munyonga grabbing his wicket.

It was the fight in Prince Masvaure (33), Mavuta (31) and Neville Madziva (21) who helped set up a decent and yet woefully inadequate 177. They were out in 41.1 overs.
