Zimbabwe Women suffer whitewash

Zimbabwe Women team suffered a 3-0 whitewash in the just ended three match One Day International series against Bangladesh Women after suffering a comprehensive seven-wicket victory at Queens Sports Club, Bulawayo.

Mary Anne Musonda won the toss and decided to bat first. Zimbabwe made four changes. Josephine Nkomo, Nomvelo Sibanda, Tasmeen Granger and Loryn Phiri played in their match of the series.

Zimbabwe looked to have a steady start, showing great resolve but Modester Mupachikwa was run out for eight.

From then on the floodgates opened as wickets fell at regular intervals. Nahida Aktar was the destroyer in chief with five wickets to her name in her 10 overs. She got the big wickets of skipper Musonda, Ashley Ndiraya, Nkomo, Christabel Chatonzwa and Granger. Mayers played valiantly for her 39 but without much support from the other end. She eventually fell to Fariha Trisna.

Zimbabwe were bowled out for 72 in 27.2 overs

In reply, the Bangladeshi chased the target with ease winning with 190 balls to spare for the loss of three wickets. The Zimbabwe bowlers showed great discipline though at good economic rates. Loryn Phiri got opener Nuzhan Tasnia for 10. Esther Mbofana and Nomvelo Sibanda also got a wicket each but it was only delaying the inevitable as Bangladesh cruised to victory.

Nahid Aktar was player of the match for her five-wicket haul.
