In a tweet, Nakamba said, “Thank you for everything gaffer. It was a pleasure working with you.”

Smiith, 50, was the man who signed Nakamba, bringing him into the Premier League from Belgium.

Nakamba was a starter in Smith’s last game in charge, a 1-0 loss to Southampton on Friday. It was the fifth reversal in a row this season, leaving the Villains 15th, just three points above the dreaded dropzone.

Nakamba turns his attention to international football as he turns out for Zimbabwe in two Fifa World Cup Qualifying dead rubbers this week and the next.
