The Zimbabwe Cheetahs Academy squad for the Kenya 7s has been released.
Kudzai Mashawi captains the side filled with players across clubs. They have been training at Old Georgians.
Head Coach Graham Kaulback said they selected the touring team mainly their Academy side to take part in the Kenya Sevens as the team builds up to the HSBC circuit qualifiers and Africa Cup next year. He said ‘…we are looking to give our players more game time on the international stage ahead of the circuit qualifiers and Africa Cup”.
He said the team is a fine blend of youth and experience and this bodes well for the Cheetahs long term development plan.
Kenya Sevens will be held at the weekend of the 30th and 31st of October. The team is expected to leave the country on Thursday.
The Zimbabwe Cheetahs Academy is in Pool A with Kenya Shujaa( the Kenyan premier team that is on the HSBC circuit), Germany(who will feature former Cheetahs speedster Manasseh Sita, the Nigerian Stallion 7’s. Their first game is against Germany on the 30th of October at Nyayo stadium at 0920hrs.
The Cheetahs next game will be against the Nigerian Stallions at 1230hrs and they face off the Kenyan Shujaa team at 1520hrs to round up their pool stage games.
