Alliance Health Eagles put on a steady batting performance on the final day, chasing down a score to beat Rhinos by five wickets in a Logan Cup match at Harare Sports Club on Sunday.
Coming off an overnight score of 283 for loss of six wickets, Rhinos were bowled out for 308. Tanaka Chivanga and Richard Ngarava were the chief architects of the capitulation. Chivanga was four 69 and Ngarava three for 86. Wessly Madhevere’s two for 38 was also key.
That set Eagles a target of 275.
Gareth Chirawu and Kudzai Maunze combined for an opening stand of 88. Of the two, Maunze was the aggressor, picking up 63 off just 49 balls. He was the first go, out to Tafara Chingwara, with Takdzwanashe Kaitano completing the catch.
Captain Chamu Chibhabha did not bother the scorers, departing for zero, having faced just three balls.
Regis Chakabva joined Chirawu at the crease and the pair combined for a partnership of 127.
Chirawu would reach his maiden first class 50 before departing on 70, dismissed by Kudakwashe Macheka.
Tinotenda Mutombodzi departed for a duck in five balls, out to Johnathan Campbell, caught by Brandon Mavuta.
Chakabva fell on 99, caught by Campbell off Mavuta.
Madhevere (33) and Tinashe Kamunhukamwe (2) saw the Eagles to 278 for the loss of five wickets in 50.3 overs.
