Ghana beat improved Zimbabwe

Ghana inflicted a 3-1 defeat on an improved Zimbabwe in a Fifa World Cup 2022 Qualifier at the Cape Coast.

Ghana took an early lead from Muhammad Kudus, a deflected effort making its way into the back of Washington Arubi’s net.

Zimbabwe improve but could not score for long periods and went into the break behind.

After the break, Zimbabwe were awarded a penalty, which captain Knowledge Musona converted, slotting into the top right corer, with the keeper the wrong way.

Zimbabwe continued with pressure and a curled effort from Jordan Zemura hit the upright with the keeper beaten.

For that they were punished when Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey slotted in a grounder from outside a box to put the hosts ahead in the 66th minute.

Zimbabwe knocked less after a slew of changes and the coffin’s nail was banged on the proverbial coffin when Jordan Ayew headed in the third from just outside the six yard box.

What it means

Zimbabwe are bottom of the log with a single point. South Africa are top with seven. It’s tense.
