Messaging app, WhatsApp, moved a step closer to allowing users to be able to message from four different devices without needing the phone to be awake.
Currently, you need your phone to be alive to synchronise messages from your laptop.
A new feature will let users send and receive messages “even if your phone battery is dead”. That is being rolled into beta for a small number of users to try out. That will allow them to test it out, add new features before handing it out to people.
Up to four other devices – like PCs and tablets – can be used together, WhatsApp said.
And it will retain end-to-end encryption which is a big deal, for the privacy aspect.
For markets like Zimbabwe, this is neat when you have power cuts nicking phone time from you. And also the webapp platform is always disconnecting so that is no fun.
We will be waiting, and are totally excited about it all.
