Father Ribeiro set for Heroes’ Acre burial

The late Roman Catholic priest Father Emmanuel Ribeiro will be buried at the National Heroes’ Acre, Zimbabwe’s government has confirmed.

Following consultations with family, it was agreed that the burial of the liberation struggle icon would take place at the shrine on Monday.

Father Ribeiro was declared a national hero on Friday, on the basis of his having helped designed the Zimbabwe flag, his composing numerous Shona hymns among other actions.

A mass will be held at St Mary’s Queen of Peace at Old Highfield on Sunday afternoon. Another mass will be held in the same neighbourhood on Monday morning before buria later.

Father Ribeiro sadly died on Thursday morning, at 86.
