Zimbabwe adds 2 more Covid-19 hotspots, new cases remain high

Zimbabwe’s Ministry of Health and Child Care announced two new hotspots to the Covid-19 hotspot list as new cases remained high.

Chinhoyi and Chidamoyo, both in the Mashonaland West province have been added to the growing list. They join Mhangura, Mount Darwin,  the three Bulawayo areas of Emakhandeni, Nkulumane and Northern Suburbs along with Masvingo District and Chiredzi.

Kariba, Karoi and Kwekwe remain under localised lockdown.

The whole of Zimbabwe is currently under restrictions but not a hard lockdown.

Meanwhile, there were 238 new Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, with three deaths recorded. Of the new cases, Mashonaland West had 105, followed by Zimbabwe with 41. Active cases in total, sit at 1,841.

As at 16 June 2021, Zimbabwe had 40,556 confirmed cases, including 37,075 recoveries and 1,640 deaths. To date, a total of 697,399 people have been vaccinated against COVID-19.
