Walter Muparutsa Dies

We have received the sad news that prolific director, actor and producer Walter Muparutsa has died.

While we are not certain of the cause of his death, Muparutsa had suffered from non-Hodgkins cancer. He died on Thursday night.

He was born Walter Lambert Lambert Dehwe Muparutsa on the 23rd of March 1941 and did his education at St. Augustine’s Mission Penhalonga, Ranch House & Luveve Technical College.

He was a writer, director, producer, promoter and actor (Radio, Television, Theatre, and Film & Crafts) and was involved in innumerable projects in a career spanning from the 1970s to the time of his death. He made an appearance in the British drama series Peak Practice and was part of the cast of one of Zimbabwe’s first sitcoms, Waiters. He also made a cameo as a Lesotho businessman the Richard Attenborough directed Steven Biko drama Cry Freedom which starred Denzel Washington.

It is a sad loss of an iconic figure in the arts industry who was a fearless and skilled craftsman in the arts. He also was readily involved in passing on wisdom to young artists at no cost.
