Zimbabwe allows restaurants to open for sit-ins

Zimbabwe has allowed restaurants to open for sit-in customers.

This was announced by the Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Monica Mustvangwa at a post-cabinet briefing on Tuesday.

Restaurants will be allowed to have sit-in customers at 50% capacity under strict adherence to Covid-19 guidelines.

The reprieve comes after two and a half months in which restaurants were closed due to Covid-19 restrictions. Earlier this month they were allowed to accept customers for takeaways.

Recently, the Restaurant Operators Association of Zimbabwe had expressed fears that half of their members would have to shut down permanently if they were not allowed sit-in customers.

Meanwhile, hospitality industry workers have been included in stage two of phase one in the Covid-19 vaccination.
