South African millionaire and Mamelodi Sundowns owner Patrice Motsepe is to be confirmed as the new president of the Confederation of African Football.
This is after his final challenger, Jacques Anouma, pulled out of the race.
Motsepe had the backing of the government, the PSL, Council of Southern African Football Associations (Cosafa) president Philip Chiyangwa and other bodies on the continent.
FIFA President, Gianni Infantino had, through his representatives, brokered a deal which would see Senegalese presidential candidate, Augustin Senghor and Mauritania’s Ahmad Yahya step down in support of Motsepe. The deal would, reportedly, see the two candidates take up the first and second vice-president seats at the congress in Rabat on March 12.
Earlier on Friday, Seghnor withdrew from the race and backed Motsepe. Yahya had also stepped down.
Anouma also stepped down on advice from Infantino.
That means the meeting in Rabat is now a handover, more than an election.
