India will donate a total of 75,000 Covid-19 vaccine doses to Zimbabwe.
This was said announced by President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Friday, saying, “We are grateful to our Indian friends for committing to donate 75,000 COVID vaccines & for the opportunity to buy more moving forward. We are working tirelessly to obtain sufficient vaccines so we can overcome this virus & revive our economy.”
Exactly how many vaccines Zimbabwe will by from India is not clear.
At present it has secured 800,000 doses from China (200,000 of which have arrived with another 600,000 landing first week of March). The UK and Russia are to be sources too along with the World Health Organisation’s Covax platform.
Zimbabwe is looking at inoculating 10 million (60% of its population) free of charge and on a voluntary basis.
