Load shedding on Wednesday due to fire at Hwange Power Station – Zesa

Load shedding experienced on Wednesday 10 February 2021 was caused by a fire at Hwange Power Station, the Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (Zesa) Holdings has said.

Zesa Holdings Executive Chairperson Sidney Gata said the fire broke out in the Unit 1 boiler around 1700hrs lasting for about 40 minutes.

The cause was a leak in the diesel supply line.

There were now casualties as a result of the fire.

This resulted in load shedding between 1730hrs and 2030hrs as 140MW due to suspension of loads on Units 2 and 5.

As of Wednesday evening they were in the process of firing the two units to restore normal service by Thursday.
