Zimbabwe’s Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Mumbengegwi who had been holed up in strife-torn Mali since Thursday last week following a coup has been airlifted out of the country.
Mumbengegwi, who had been there on official African Union business was extracted along with his Kenyan counterpart to Lagos, Nigeria.
The new military authorities had allowed Kenya to carry out a rescue mission. Zimbabwe’s ambassador to nearby Senegal Trudy Stevenson said that she had spoken to Mumbengegwi and he was fine.
Meanwhile, noone knows where ousted President Amadou Toumani Touré is at the moment.
We are just glad to have our man out of there.
