Brave Zimbabwe fall short after late rally

Zimbabwe pounded 110 in the last 10 overs but fell agonisingly just shot as they lost by 5 runs to Bangladesh in the second ODI on Tuesday.

Donald Tiripano (55*) and Tino Mutombodzi (34) looked as of they had engineered a comeback of epic proportions as they brought Zimbabwe to within a few blows of victory.

They were chasing a massive score after Bangladesh put 322/8 on the board anchored by a 156 from Tamim Iqbal.

He was assisted by Mushfiqur Rahim (55), Mahmudullah (41) and Mohammad Mithum (32).

Tiripano took 2-35 and Carl Mumba 2-64. Debutant Charlton Tshuma was 1-35 with teenage sensation Wesley Madhevere 1-38.

With interim captain Chamu Chibhabha injured, Regis Chakabva opened the batting with Tinashe Kamunhukamwe but he fell for 2.

Brendan Taylor (11) and Sean Williams (14) did not stick around for long. This was while Kamunhukamwe got his 51 before being bowled by Taijul Islam.

At the second time of asking, Madhevere made 52 before he was trapped leg before ny Islam.

On the other end, Sikandar Raza was masterful, getting to 66 with five fours and two sixes. Masharafe Mortaza got his wicket.

When it looked like a done deal, Mutumbami (19) together with Tiripano and Mutombodzi had a go.

It didn’t work out in the end but there were a lot of positives for Zimbabwe going into the final ODI.
