Swashbuckling Sean Williams rattles Rangers in Pro50 opener

Zimbabwe test captain Sean Williams hammered a 27-ball half century as Tuskers beat newcomers Rangers by eight wickets in a Pro50 Championship opener at Queens Sports Club.

Williams entered the fray after the fall of Nkosana Mpofu for 36 with 66 runs still needed on the board and picked off 51 of those hitting 5 fours and 4 sixes in chasing down a modest 149.

Brian Chari was on a run-a-ball at that time but largely watched the batting spectacle from the other end for his unbeaten 48 off 51 balls.

Earlier, List A debutant Johnathan Cambell top-scored with 42 for a Rangers side that never got quite going, losing wickets at regular intervals, eventually bowled out for 148 in 44.2 overs.

Sheunopa Musekiwa was the pick of the bowlers with 3 for 29 while the veteran Chris Mpofu kept himself in eye line of the selectors for the upcoming Bangladesh tour with 2 for 27 in 7.2 overs. Williams returned the exact same figures in 10 overs, 2-27 while Ainsley Ndlovu showed why the selectors fancy him with 2-19 of 10 overs.
