Jungle Fever Grips Zimbabwe’s Artists

So last night we attended the Prince Clause award ceremony at Book Cafe which preceded the opening of the spot to the public. It was an interesting affair and stuff happened there. People drank, people reconnected and some people got drunk. There were speeches, and well, more speeches and there was music.

The thing that I found interesting was the number of interracial couples at the function and most of them looked pretty new. I counted about 9 couples, with pretty much all of them being a black male and white woman.

Makes you wonder if it is a new fad or it is the continuation of the age-old starving artist meets travelling white a girl and a season of romance ensues. We are not saying that the relationships can be reduced to that line. Mannex, formerly of Transit Crew married a girl from Czech Republic and they looked pretty happy yesterday.

However I did not see any of the local black guys with a local white girl which does make you wonder. Is it that the white Zimbabwean girls are just not into Zimbabwean black guys, especially the starving artists. I am not going to suggest that the starving artists are looking for a way to reach international markets and the best way to do it is to sleep your way there. No, I wouldn’t for a minute think that.

In reality, it is all love and to each his own. Some people like one thing and others a different thing.

So if you are one of those that was mulling over this, don’t worry, it’s in season. You won’t look weird. Just get yourself that white girl. Just make sure that you don’t play with her heart though. She is still human.

Just a note. You will have to fight with those fellas from Harare Gardens. You know the ones I am talking about.
