#THURSPOETRY: Tafadzwa Chiwanza – Wicked Problem

#ThursPoetry returns this week with new words from The Gourd of Consciousness Poetry.

Tafadzwa Chiwanza

Tafadzwa Chiwanza grew up in Harare and is a University of Zimbabwe accounting student by training.

A poet by calling, Chiwanza, hopes to leave the imprint of his literary footsteps on Zimbabwe’s long writing road with his first anthology; “The Memory of A smile.” His passion has always drawn him to the world of art, not merely as a poet, but an avid observer of human society. Socially conscious of the socio-economic and political ills his generation has had to grapple with.

To him, writing is not just a process of communicating with and collective wisdom but also a mandatory human need towards civilization.

POEM

Title: Wicked problem

I am the gobbet of meat stuck between the croc’s teeth,
Daring to shout obscenities at the setting sun
For looking so beautifully sad, to my teary eyes.
I am the soapstone hurled by a catapult-
To a destination beneath fate’s smelly feet, Cursing the gentle wind: indifferent to my plight.
I am a cigarette stub thrown away in anger,
Lying next to a spent matchstick, daring to light up and smoke myself.
I am the new hundred dollar bill every bartender looks at suspiciously, before it disappears beneath a million pennies
I am the faded jean she no longer wears,
Warring with dress hangers in her wardrobe
Needing her to need me one last time.
