THREE things Zimbabwe have to get right to beat Zambia on Tuesday

Zimbabwe will go into their second Africa Cup of Nations match when they take on Zambia away following a disappointing draw on matchday one to Botswana.

It was a match the Warriors were expected to win, even if not comfortably, against an improved but still not fancy opposition. This being at home.

There are things that they will have to improve against a Zambia side which shipped five goals against Algeria on matchday one.

Here are things they will have to do differently:

  1. Less media and that includes social media: The players do spend an inordinate amount of time doing PR work, if not with interviews with papers, then social media updates. You want players in camp to go dark, which is why camp exists. For those days, it should be silence and focus on the match. The media bits gives the impression of a much too relaxed atmosphere.
  2. Adapt to circumstances: There is some rain forecast on Tuesday in Zambia. That means the on the ground play they love has to go out of the window. They kept trying to play a village version of tiki taka on Friday on a bumpy pitch which showed a lack of game awareness.
  3. The wings aren’t there for decoration: Zimbabwe had bags of pace on the wings but generally played through the middle where Botswana easily cut them off.

There are also questions to be asked around Knowledge Musona playing the full match when he does look a bit off-pace.

Also, do test the goalies.

The match kicks off at 18.00hrs. As soon as we get a link, we will share it.
