Free Health Care By May For Pregnant Women, Elderly

Pregnant mothers, the elderly and children in Zimbabwe could receive access to free healthcare by May this year,  according to Health Minister Henry Madzorera.

He was speaking at the donation of $5.2 million by the EU to the Health Transition Fund which sets it half-way to its target of $10 million. The fund was set up by government in 2011 and it invited various donors to help with its success. UNICEF manages it.

The new development will give this access to pregnant women, children under 5 and elderly people over 60 years.

We welcome this as it means that the most vulnerable groups have access to a right to good health. The issue of health and wellness has increasingly become something that the rich have access to.
