Zimbabwe banned by Cosafa after government sticks to its guns over hosting

Zimbabwe has been banned by Cosafa after the pulling out of hosting the senior men’s challenge in 2019 and refusing to do so in 2020.

The Zimbabwe Football Association has committed to hosting the Cosafa Cup in 2019 before the government nixed the decision. Zifa were then fined and half of it held back if they committed to hosting the tournament in 2020.

Sports, Youth, Arts and Recreation minister Kirsty Coventry turned that down and when the 30 June deadline passed Cosafa banned Zimbabwe from taking part in the 2020 edition. They will also be required to pay a USD200,000 fine by 15 August.
