Opener Tarisai Musakanda and middle-order batsmen Peter Moor both scored half centuries as Rhinos beat Mountaineers by three wickets in the opening Pro50 Championship of the season at Kwekwe Sports Club.
Musakanda was good for his run-a-ball 78 before falling to Natsai M’shangwe. Moor picked up 55 off 57 balls before he was removed by Victor Nyauchi.
Nyauchi (3-28) made in-roads late on with debutant William Mashinge(2-44) to set up a tense finish but the earlier work from Moor and Musakanda ensured the hosts reached their target with 39 balls remaining to complete the victory.
The big news earlier was the return to action of former national captain Greame Cremer and he accounted for Innocent Kaia early on trapping him for 22.
His other victim was Tinashe Chimbambo as he returned 2-41 from his 10 overs.
The highlight of the Mountaineers innings was Roy Kaia’s unbeaten 99 though. The worry for the eastern highlands side is that only one bastmen who made significant runs had a strike rate of over 100. With a bit of aggression they could have made more than the 230/7 they made.
Tuskers and Eagles lock horns on Sunday at Harare Sports Club.
