A few days ago, we wrote an article on the possibility of Zimbabwe becoming a dark country if Mozambique turns off the electricity for non-payment of a 5 million dollar debt.
It turns out our neighbours in South Africa are also having issues at Eskom, their power utility company.
The goings-on at Eskom has prompted President Jacob Zuma to authorize the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) to investigate the power utility’s operations for evidence of corruption, fraud or maladministration.
Investigations are always a welcome thing, but experience tells us that the Special Investigating Unit will conclude its findings then probably refer the case to National Prosecuting Authority and then to the South African Police Service.
By that time the investigation ends everyone would have forgotten about the whole case.
