10 Zimbabwean players have put their hat in the ring for the inaugural Mzanzi Super League T20 set for later this year.
Brendan Taylor, Craig Ervine, Solomon Mire, Elton Chigumbura, Sean Williams, Tendai Chisoro, Kyle Jarvis, Neville Madziva, Chris Mpofu and Brandon Mavuta have all put their hat in the rings with the hopes of being picked up for the tournament.
Cricket South Africa says it got over 200 applications from international players to be picked for the league. Chris Gayle, Joe Root and Dwayne Bravo are named among international marquee players.
The MSL T20 will run from November 16 to December 16 with the 32-match competition fixtures and tickets set to be announced shortly.
For the Zimbabwe players it would be interesting to see if they will be issued with No Objection Certificates given their board is keen on making its own domestic league more competitive. Zimbabwe Cricket’s league kicks off 1 December.
The competing teams (and their home venues and marquee Proteas players) are:
Cape Town Blitz (Newlands) – JP Duminy
Durban Heat (Kingsmead) – Hashim Amla
Jozi Stars (Wanderers) – Kagiso Rabada
Nelson Mandela Bay Giants (St George’s Park) – Imran Tahir
Paarl Rocks (Boland Park) – Faf du Plessis
Tshwane Spartans (SuperSport Park Centurion) – AB de Villiers
