Confusion At ZIFA House Continues

Confusion seems to be reigning high at the headquarters of Zimbabwe’s football governing body.

The flip-flopping and contradicting statements coming out of ZIFA house seems to suggest that the match-fixing debacle of “Asiagate” may have left the already disorganised house in more disarray.

Initially ZIFA had said that all players implicated in the Asiagate scandal remain suspended until they are cleared by an independent commission of enquiry set up last year. However ZIFA head Cuthbert Dube, was quoted in the local media as naming defenders Method Mwanjali and Thomas Sweswe alongside striker Nyasha Mushekwi as the only players ineligible for national team selection.

Dube then released a statement that reverted to the original position of the emergency board meeting of January 31. The emergency meeting suspended all implicated players until clearance by a ZIFA Independent Disciplinary Ad Hoc Committee chaired by Justice Ebrahim.

“Asiagate” has already cost former ZIFA Chief Executive Officer Henrietta Rushwaya her freedom, she was arrested on Thursday by police investigating match fixing in football.

In the all too familiar world of African football riddled with match-fixing and bribes one kind of has a sense that someone did not pay someone who was meant to be paid to keep the scandal under wraps, and because of that a whole lot more people are in trouble now.
