#HIFA2018: Oh snap! We just fell in love with the delicate treat called TONE

The Harare International Festival of the Arts has kicked off its 2018 edition and if the first show we saw is anything to go by, the smaller shows are going to be epic.

TONE is the latest project from vocalist Sarah Elizabeth Charles and pianist Jarrett Cherner, featuring original material composed by the duo.

Sarah’s vocal dexterity, her ability to place musical tones within each other, a soulful partitioning of sound but for the same conquest is a joy.

The two New Yorkers are the sort of gems you will find on a Hifa programme and Sarah in one of her thank yous paid special tribute to the organisers for making her show possible.

A musical gem, the notes dance in the absolutely greenery of your Savannah mind to produce a tasty treat, if crystallised can be worn as a trinket. She picked tones as if out of a repository in the souls of the gods with their penchant for timeless poetry and presented with positive, growth and enhancing subjects tackled.

Sadly it is the only performance TONE is giving us but if you’re doing Hifa we recommend the intimate little treats in places like the Global Stage.

Hifa runs until 6 May 2018.
